Explore ocean life and the impact of plastic pollution at the Iziko South African Museum!

Partnering with the Iziko Museum's Education Department, Puppet Planet and Guardians of the Deep presents a hands-on, arts-centered science program on marine science and conservation. Stay-tuned for a description of activities coming this week! 

 

Admission to the Museum and the fossil activities are free on this day! The Iziko South African Museum is located in downtown Cape Town near the Company Gardens. See our map or click here for more information.

 

Materials are limited so we suggest you come early. Also be aware that we may experience loadshedding at any time that could affect our program. Please consult the ESKOM loadshedding schedule for updates. If an outage occurs we will do our best to accommodate visitors.

Explore South Africa's unique marine ecosystems with Guardians of the Deep!

Activities will be finalized this week, but you will: 

  • Meet real marine scientists who will give a short tour of the Iziko Museum's ocean life exhibits

  • Investigate South African ocean ecosystems through arts-centered, hands-on activities

  • Listen to amazing music about the need to protect our oceans and sing along with local musician Monwabisi Dasi

  • Make Origami ocean animals for a museum mobile to support ocean conservation with paper artist Ayanda Aylar
